Banking Advice

Are you traveling to the Greece and around Europe? Do you want to know the best the money and banking advice along with some of the best helpful resources online?

I have put together a list of essential items and tips that i personally pack in my bag when i travel to Greece and other European countries. As well as this i have also compiled a list of useful resources online that i use to get the best value deals when i am traveling in Europe. These include some really low priced booking sites and travel insurance sites. See below.

My Essential Travel Gear

When i travel to Greece i always have a list of essential items i pack in my bag. I have also included my wife’s items as well.

RFID protected wallet:

To protect my bank cards while traveling i always pack my RFID protected wallet. This stops any possible scammers in busy and crowded places in Greece from coming close to me and trying to lift my bank card’s details wirelessly and therefore empty my bank account without me knowing. My girlfriend uses a women’s RFID protected purse.

RFID Protector Money Belt:

I also pack my Alpha Keeper money belt in my travel bag which has built in RFID protection. I usually use this when i am in busy city centers or popular Greek tourist destinations like Athens and the Greek Islands. Just in case pickpockets take my wallet i carry a second stash of concealed cash on me while i am traveling and can carry on. I highly recommend it. My wife wears the same thing while traveling Greece and this has saved us a few times and allowed us to enjoy our Greek summer holiday.

TSA Lock with Search Alert:

I always lock my bags with a TSA Locks with Search Alert. I love them because they tell me if my lock has been opened and my bag has been tampered with by baggage handling staff or others. The Search Alert dot will turn red instead of green if the lock has been opened by someone with a TSA key. I guess this is a deterrent by rogue baggage handlers as they certainly don’t want complaints by travelers about items being stolen. Instead they probably look for easy pickings (i.e. bags without TSA locks with search alert.) I know because a friend had many expensive items including clothing, jewellery and electronics stolen from either from baggage handlers in the Athens Airport. He did not have these TSA locks with Serach Alert.

Kindle:

I like to read, so instead of packing many heavy books in my bag. I bring my Kindle, i can download and carry all my e-books with me and read them when i have a quiet moment on the Greek beaches or in the quiet Greek country. This is something i cannot live without on our Greece summer holidays.

Camera:

I use a Nikon camera for our Greek travel photos and videos, we have never had a problem with it. It is a sturdy and maintenance free, it is great for beginners but has all the options and functions for the professionals. If you are like me and want to cover all your bases then this can be a great choice!

Battery Bank External Charger:

Nothing is worse when you are traveling (especially when you are remote) and you have a phone that is running low on battery. If you use your phone for navigation then having a portable battery bank charger comes in handy. We now make sure we pack our Anker battery bank external charger.

Sounds:

There is nothing quite like bluetooth connected (wireless) noise cancelling headphones. These are essential if you don’t like the constant loud drum of airplane engines or loud noises while trying to relax or sleep. I use these all the time to get some quick shut eye on the long haul flight to Greece or listen to my favorite music when there is a crowd around or lots of noise.

USB Phone Charging Cable:

I always find it very useful to have my phone’s USB cable at hand when i am traveling on the plane. Plugging your phone into the USB port in your seat can help you fully charge your phone while you sleep or listen to music from your phone. So when you hit the ground running you will have a full battery when you arrive at your destination. No more stressing out. I use a two-in-one Android/Iphone USB charging cable as my partner has an iPhone and i have an android.

Travel Adaptor:

I use an Uppel all in one world travel adaptor. Its tiny, fits the purpose of charging my electronic devices where ever i may end up in. Including Greece and other countries we have stop overs in.

Reusable heat packs:

I like to travel to generally warm places on Earth but for whatever reason when the weather turns or i travel to a cold place. I like to pack small re-usable hand-warming sized heat packs in my bag when i am traveling just in case. Simple to use by clicking the metal disc inside the sodium acetate (toxic free) liquid. These are great when you travel to colder regions in Greece. You can keep your fingers warm in your jacket pockets or use them in your sleeping bag at night. They are tiny and don’t take up much space in my bag. To regenerate the heat pack, boil in water until liquid is clear again. My wife loves these.

Bag Scales:

I always pack a compact Inspira digital hanging scale in with my luggage as i often accumulate lots of stuff while in Greece. Between my wife and i we buy lots of Greek souvenirs and items…There is nothing worse than paying for over weight bags on your flight home. I manage my bag weight with this small investment. .

Shower Body Wipes:

I don’t know about you but i sweat a lot when i am carrying my bags around with me in the Greek summer. I personally like to have these Dude shower body wipes with me just in case of an emergency. I generally pack 2 or 3 in my bag on any trip and most often use them on long haul flights.

Good pair of Polarized Sunglasses:

Always a good idea to take a pair of sunglasses with you, but if you can take a pair that is polarized then even better. Your eyes will thank you for it later, especially if your spending lots of time near the Greek beaches or the Greek alpine regions. I wear Maui Jim sunglasses because they are near impossible to break (they are very bendy) and they are very light to wear and cling to my head. My wife wears Vuarnet polarised sunglasses.

Travel Insurance

1 Cover: I always insure myself and my wife with these guys as i most often get the best price when traveling to Europe.

World Nomads: This is also another one that i have heard to be very good. Lots of my friends use this one.

Bookings

Cheapflights: This is one of the first sites i look up to search for cheap flights. They tend to have some ripper seasonal deals to Europe.

Homestay: A great site to save huge amounts of money on accommodation while you are in Europe.
